This week alone, I received more than 10 inquiries from aspiring Amazon sellers whose accounts were either stuck in verification or deactivated due to failed identity verification.

What surprised me was that almost all of them had the same story.

Most were excited entrepreneurs ready to launch their Amazon business. They had watched YouTube videos, joined seller groups, taken online courses, and decided to create their seller account on their own. Some took help from friends or colleagues who were already selling on Amazon.

Unfortunately, their Amazon journey stopped before it even started.

During my initial assessments, I discovered several common mistakes that immediately raised compliance concerns during Amazon’s verification process:

  • Ported-in or recycled mobile numbers
  • Incomplete or ambiguous residential addresses
  • Bank statements that could not be verified
  • Utility bills that were altered or edited
  • Documents that did not meet Amazon’s authenticity requirements
  • Mismatched information across submitted documents

Many sellers believed these were minor issues.

Amazon did not.

As a result, their accounts were marked as “Not Verified” or were deactivated shortly after submission.

After carefully reviewing each case and correcting the underlying compliance issues, most of these accounts successfully passed verification within 24 to 48 hours.

What helped these accounts get verified?

• A unique and verifiable residential/business address

• A mobile number with a clean history and proper ownership

• Genuine utility bills showing the seller’s name and address

• Bank statements issued directly by the bank on official letterhead or signed and stamped by the branch

• Consistent information across all documents

• Authentic documentation that fully complies with Amazon’s policies

My advice to every new Amazon seller:

Creating an Amazon account is not just a registration process. It is a compliance process.

One small mistake during account creation can lead to weeks or even months of delays before your business ever starts.

If you are planning to open a new Amazon Seller Account, make sure your documents, address, phone number, and banking information are prepared correctly before submitting them.

A few minutes of professional guidance can save you months of frustration.
